MATTER OF FACT

On 19 June 2020, we published a story with the headline, Probe mine grabs in Matabeleland, ZACC urged,  where Bulawayo businesswoman Siphiwe Gatsha-Dube and local traditional leaders claimed that she was being forced off โ€œherโ€ gold mining claims at Legion mine by the Minister of Mines.

Gatsha-Dube told a meeting that her claims were said to have been bought by Harare based Businessman Thomas Gono and further stated that she had never met the said Thomas Gono insinuating that the take over was unlawful.

It has since been brought to our attention that the ownership of the five mining claims has been a subject of a legal dispute between the two businesspeople.

According to Gonoโ€™s lawyers, V Chikomo Law Chambers, ย Gasha-Dube was leasing the claims for the past years before the arrangement was terminated. The Bulawayo High Court ruled in favour of Gono.

Therefore, we would like to unreservedly apologise to Gono for misrepresentations in our story and any inconveniences that may have been caused by the allegations โ€“ Editorย
