Manhunt for suspect linked to Cowdray Park murder case

Police in Bulawayo have arrested three men in connection with the murder of a Cowdray Park man who was stabbed to death in August and have launched a manhunt for the fourth member of the gang.

Bhekimpilo Tshuma, Vumindaba Mkhwananzi and Eric Mpofu have been arrested while Ntokozo Moyo (25) is still on the run.

The four allegedly accosted Gugulethu Ngwenya (17) and accused him of threatening their 13 year old friend (name withheld) before they stabbed him once on the chest and fled with his cell phone and money.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele appealed to members of the public who may have information about the whereabouts of the suspect to report him.

“We would like to appeal to members of the public who may have any information that can lead to the location and arrest of the accused person so that justice can prevail. We encourage them to contact the officer in charge CID law and order Homicide Bulawayo on 0292-71568 or 0292-71568 or alternatively the investigating officer Detective Assistant Inspector Mudyazvavanhu on 0772 301 372 or any nearest police station,” she said.

Ass Insp Msebele said the four manhandled Ngwenya before stabbing him on the chest. 

“They accused him of threatening their friend. They manhandled him with Moyo and Mpofu holding his hands on both sides while the other two assaulted him. Moyo then drew an okapi from his pocket and stabbed him once on the chest,” Ass Insp Msebele said.

“They searched his pockets and took his cell phone from his jacket while demanding cash. They stole ZAR50 which was in his pocket. The deceased staggered from the scene to crossing the road and fell down about 29 meters where he eventually died. The accused accomplices were accounted for by while efforts to locate the suspect were fruitless(sic).”
