‘Peacemaker’ fatally struck with a brick while trying to stop a fight

A peacemaker who tried to stop a fight between two friends was fatally struck with a brick on his head, police have confirmed.

Talent Simango,22, was walking home in the evening of August 4 from Buthabubili Business Centre in Tsholotsho with his two friends, Simuntu Ndebele aged 22 and Menelisi Mthombeni aged 25.

Ndebele and Mthombeni got into an altercation over a debt and Simango tried to pacify the two.

“As the argument ensued over an undisclosed amount of money owed to Ndebele by Mthombeni, Ndebele kept insulting and threatening to kill Mthombeni,” said Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese.

“Simango decided to intervene begging Ndebele not to kill and to desist from violence but Mthombeni upon realising that Ndebele’s temper kept rising decided to flee the scene heading towards the bush. As he ran away, Ndebele turned against Simango accusing him of interfering in his fights and he picking up a moulded brick and struck him on his head once before fleeing the scene.”

Simango collapsed on the spot and his lifeless body was discovered by a neighbour Saziso Ncube, the following morning and a report was made to the police.

Police investigations led to Ndebele`s arrest while Simango`s body was taken to the Tsholotsho District Hospital mortuary.
