Gwanda man undergoes successful surgery after community support

By Ndumiso Tshuma

A 22-year-old man from Gwanda, Muziwandile Sibanda, has undergone successful surgery in Harare after being diagnosed with a mandibular tumour on his lower jaw earlier this year.

The operation, carried out on Tuesday, was made possible through a community-led fundraising campaign that raised over US$8,000 of the US$10,000 needed for medical expenses.

His brother, Mbukisenezweni Sibanda, said doctors agreed to proceed with the surgery despite the outstanding balance.

“Thank you for your continued support and prayers. We managed to raise just over US$8,000, and the doctors proceeded with the operation. Though we still owe them, we are pleased to announce that Muziwandile was successfully operated on,” he said.

He added that the procedure marked a critical step in his brother’s journey to recovery and would allow him to return to pursuing his ambitions.

“This operation will not only relieve Muziwandile’s suffering but also give him the opportunity to follow his dream of becoming a diesel plant mechanic. It’s a significant step toward restoring his health, and we remain optimistic about his recovery.”
