Former Byo deputy mayor Amen Mpofu dies

Former Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Alderman Amen Mpofu has died.

Alderman Mpofu who had been battling a kidney ailment passed on, Friday at a local hospital.

MDC Alliance Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza confirmed the news of Mpofu’s passing.

“He died at Mpilo Central Hospital. The late Mpofu, who served the City of Bulawayo for a long time as a city father, was also a member of the MDC Alliance Bulawayo Provincial Executive Committee. May his soul Rest In Peace,” he said. 

In April, the former deputy mayor opened up to the publication on his kidney problem.

He noted that the previous month in March – his health had deteriorated and he spent some time in hospital

However, at the time, Alderman Mpofu had said his condition has slightly improved, although he was still in pain and was going for kidney dialysis twice a week.   

Bulawayo Provincial MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Secretary-General, Pashor Sibanda also tweeted, saying Mpofu’s death was a loss to Bulawayo. 

“I am reliably informed that former City of Bulawayo deputy mayor Alderman Amen Mpofu has passed on. You can’t talk of devolution, Bulawayo’s development with mentioning Aldermen Mpofu. Rest in Power Clr Mpofu,” he said.
