Five more people succumb to Covid-19, 88 new cases recorded

Five more people have died while 88 have tested positive to the Coronavirus, the latest information from the Ministry of Health and Child Care shows. 

Bulawayo recorded four of the fatalities and 40 new cases. 

The other fatality was recorded in Masvingo while Mashonaland West recorded 24 new cases, Matabeleland South recorded 10, Harare eight new cases, Matabeleland North three, while Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and Masvingo recorded one case each.

“88 new cases and five deaths reported in the last 24 hours (7 day rolling average for new cases rises to 5 from 56 yesterday),” read the report.

“555 PCR tests done today (positivity today was 15.9%). All 88 are local cases.”

In addition, the Ministry noted that the active cases have gone up to 747.

“23 new recoveries reported: National recovery rate stands at 89.5 percent and active cases go up to 747 today,” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Of the active cases, Bulawayo is leading with 216 cases, followed by Matabeleland North which has 195 cases, Harare 84 cases, 75 cases are at Matabeleland South, Mashonaland West has 60 cases, Masvingo 46 cases, Midlands 28cases, Manicaland 19 cases, Mashonaland East 13 cases.

“As of 23 November 2020, Zimbabwe has now recorded 9 308 cases, 8 288 recoveries and 273 deaths,” read the daily update.

Yesterday, Mpilo Central Hospital Acting Chief Executive Officer, Professor Solwayo Ngwenya warned that the country was likely to record more deaths as the current wave was characterised by a falling recovery rate and increase in positive cases.
