Father sentenced to 20 years for raping and impregnating his daughter

A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for repeatedly raping his teenage daughter, resulting in her pregnancy, a court in Plumtree, has heard.

The man, from Chief Hikwa’s area in Dombodema, began sexually abusing his daughter in 2013 when she was 13 years old. The court heard he would attack her when his wife was away.

“He threatened the complainant by saying that, if she reported him she would lose a breadwinner. He therefore, repeatedly raped her and she fell pregnant. The accused person continued to rape the accused person during her pregnancy,” The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said in a statement.

The victim gave birth in 2016 and fled to neighbouring Botswana. She only returned to Zimbabwe in December 2024 with her now eight-year-old daughter.

NPAZ said the woman finally reported the abuse to the police, fearing her father might target her young daughter.
