Updated: Teen fatally stabbed in fight over boyfriend

TWO Form Two female learners at Nhlambabaloyi Secondary School in Ntabazinduna got in a fight over a boy on Wednesday afternoon and took a knife and stabbed the other to death.

Earlier we had reported that the victim and perpetrator were both aged 13 but the Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said โ€œActually, itโ€™s a 17-year-old girl who killed a 15-year-old girl, they had a dispute over a boyfriend.โ€

Inspector Banda said a fight broke out between the two girls and an unnamed peacemaker broke up the fight.

The deceased then went home and the 17-year-old followed her to her homestead.

โ€œThe 15-year old took a kitchen knife for self-defence butย she was disarmed and she was killed using the kitchen knife,โ€ he said.

Inspector Banda urged people to resolve their differences amicably.

โ€œWe want to advise members of the public not to resort to violence as a way of resolving issues, they should engage third parties so that they reach a common ground and also the elderly people should guide the young people whenever they have a disagreement.โ€

Director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Taungana Ndoro said they had dispatched a team to offer psychosocial support to both families.

โ€œOur psychological services teams at the Ministry have been offered psychological support to the two families that are affected,โ€ said Ndoro.
