Dete schools appeal for building materials after rain damage

Two schools in Dete, under Hwange Rural District Council, are appealing for assistance in the form of building materials, to rehabilitate several blocks that were damaged by rains on December 10, 2023.

Ward 18 Councilor, Stanley Torima, told CITE in an interview that St Francis Xavier Primary School and Detema Secondary School classroom blocks had their roofs blown off and the learnersโ€™ books and other learning materials were left drenched in water.

Cllr Torima pleaded to well-wishers to assist with roofing material first so that while the other rehabilitation works continue, the learners can be able to continue with their lessons.

โ€œIโ€™m pleading with well-wishers to assist us to rebuild the schools that were affected by the rain disaster. Our main priority would be to have the roofs fixed first so that when schools reopen in January the students can be able to resume their lessons. We are appealing for Chromatic roofing tiles. They would be a better alternative to roof the classrooms as compared to asbestos,โ€ Cllr Torima said.

A letter written by St Francis  Xavier Primary School noted that two classrooms, headmasterโ€™s office, computer lab and infantsโ€™ block were damaged by the rains.

โ€œWe write this letter appealing for donations for blown-off roofs at St Francis Xavier Primary School.
