Cop jailed for stabbing friend over booze

A police officer was on Friday sentenced to 30 months in jail after he stabbed his friend for drinking his alcohol. 

Bruce Tendai Nyamujara (34) stationed at Rosscamp, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Stephen Ndlovu facing an assault charge. 

Magistrate Ndlovu convicted Nyamujara after a full trial and sentenced him to 30 months imprisonment. 

6 months were suspended on condition of good behavior for the the next 5 yrs and he will serve an effective 24 months. 

The court heard that on August 19 at around 4PM, Nyamujara and his friend Rangarirai Chikuvadza were drinking alcohol at Millennium bar, Rosscamp, when an argument ensued between the two. 

State representative Leonard Chile told the court that the two were sharing a calabash at the bar before Chikuvadza drank Nyamujara’s ‘hot stuff’ leading to him getting stabbed on the cheek. 

“On August 19, 2020 at around 4PM at Millennium bar, Rosscamp, Bulawayo the Chikuvadza and Nyamurara drinking calabash together. A misunderstanding arose after Chikuvadza had drank Nyamurara’s hot stuff,” said Chile. 

“Nyamurara then left the scene and came back later with a knife from an unknown place and he used it to stab Chikuvadza once on the left side of the cheek. Chikuvadza sustained a cut and was examined at Mpilo Hospital.”
