CCC calls for fresh elections to resolve electoral crisis
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has called for fresh elections to resolve the current electoral crisis in Zimbabwe.
CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba said the country is entrapped in a political and electoral crisis that will require extraordinary measures to resolve.
He said the election is not a reflection of the true will of the people.
“The only resolution and way forward articulated by CCC for avoidance of doubt and confusion is that Zimbabwe needs a fresh and broad and proper election to exit the current crisis,” said Siziba.
He said there is no alternative outside a new clean, fresh, and proper election.
“Only that can give Zimbabweans an exit outside the vicious cycle of the disputed election that has been dominating our politics since 1980.”
Siziba said every Zimbabwean, no matter whom they support, has an absolute and sovereign right to know that the government is chosen freely and equally by all Zimbabweans.
“In the current political crises, the only way this sacred right can be fulfilled, the only way we can resolve the current predicament that we are facing as a people, CCC led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa has assessed the situation and has made the following clear and emphatic demands, that to exit and restore democracy, illegitimacy in our country we are going to settle for less none other than a free, fair, credible, and proper election in our country,” he said.
He added that there is a need for regional bodies to mediate.
“Our answer to all Zimbabweans and Africans at large, the solution lies in calling upon our African brothers and those in the Region particularly SADC, the African Union, to help us to facilitate, mediate, to scuffle, and more importantly to guarantee a process that would lead our return to legitimacy in the shortest period of time,” said Siziba.
“Zimbabwe faces a legitimate question and the solution to resolve that crisis is that Zimbabwe must be able to go back to the road to democracy legitimately and to do so we must ensure that we seat down and scuffle the process by SADC, by the African Union, that guarantees Zimbabwe to have a free, fair, and credible election.”
Siziba said the entire process of the recently held election was flawed.
“The solution is to have a fresh, free, and fair, and credible election. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) failed in the following respect: It failed the credibility check, transparency check, it failed the professional checks, and therefore ZEC failed its fidelity to the Zimbabwean constitution and ZEC must be disbanded,” he said.
