A 49-year-old Bulawayo woman has died after she was hit by a speeding car in Northend suburb on Monday, police have confirmed.
The woman succumbed to severe head injuries which she sustained from the accident.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said after hitting the woman, the driver lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road and hit a precast wall of a house by the roadside.
“The driver is Kudzaishe Blessing Chinyakuza (24) and he resides at an address along Robert Mugabe way in Bulawayo. He was driving his Nissan Bluebird along Queens road due North with no passengers on board,” said Insp Ncube.
Insp Ncube said the woman, whose name he did not disclose was walking along the same road and in the same direction.
“Chinyakuza hit the pedestrian who was walking on the same road. He lost control of his car and veered to the left side of the road and hit a precast wall of house number 13 Heany Road Northend. The accident was due to speeding and lack of attention by the driver,” he said.
“As a result of the accident, the woman sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. The body was conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem.”
Insp Ncube said Chinyakuza’s car sustained frontal damages comprising of a fallen front bumper, front fender, deformed bonnet, dangling head light on the left side and cracked wind-screen.
He appealed to motorists to be more alert when driving as roads get slippery during the rainy season.
“We appeal to motorists to be considerate while behind the steering. Roads are slippery during this period and there are high chances of one losing control of the vehicle and putting lives of other road users at risk. Such losses of lives due to human actions are regretable,” he said.
