Byo trio in court for 31 July protests

Three Bulawayo residents who were arrested Saturday in connection with the July 31 anti-government demonstrations have been released on bail.

The trio, including a media entrepreneur and freelance journalist, Nigel Ndlovu, Nyasha Lydia Muzaba and Methembe Msipha were on Monday granted ZWL$1 000 bail Bulawayo Magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.

They were charged with contravening Section 37 of the Criminal Law and (Codification b and Reform) Act Chapter 9.23, which is “participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaching peace and bigotry.”

Their lawyer, Kholwani Ngwenya of TJ Mabhikwa and Partners said the trio is expected back in court on August 17.

Ndlovu, Muzaba and Msipha were arrested on Sunday morning at their homes in Magwegwe.
