Byo police investigate workplace death

A 58-year-old employee at Nimr and Chapman manufacturing company in Bulawayo reportedly died while operating a ladle pot machine, CITE has established.

The now deceased has been identified as Jasper Chivunge.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Ncube confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress to establish the cause of death.

“We are investigating a case of sudden death and the deceased is Jasper Chivunge aged 58 years old. On the 17th of June 2021 around 1400hours, he was working on some machine called ladle pot which is used for pouring molten iron from furnaces but then around 1510 hours another worker noticed the deceased lying down and when they drew closer they found him without signs of life,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said a report was made to the police and his body was taken to UBH for post-mortem.

 “These are some of the industrial accidents where it takes the company and the employees and maybe everyone to follow lay down guidelines, however, the investigations are in progress to establish what really caused this mishap,” said Inspector Ncube.
