Byo man commits suicide by hanging

A 21-year-old man from Bulawayo’s New Magwegwe suburb committed suicide by hanging using a rope, police have said.

The deceased was reportedly suffering from mental illness and was on medication.

Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube said the deceased did not leave any suicide report.

“Circumstances are that on the 16th of August 2021 at around 0920 hours the now deceased Mongameli Sibanda a male adult aged 21 years of New Magwegwe visited his cousin brother a male adult aged 25 years of New Magwegwe, Bulawayo. The now deceased was left in the house by his cousin brother whilst he was proceeding to Old Magwegwe, Bulawayo,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said the now deceased’s cousin came back at around 11 am and found the door locked from inside and knocked but there was no response.

Inspector Ncube said the informant then peeped through the window and discovered the now deceased hanging from the roof truss.

“The informant later reported the case at ZRP Magwegwe and police attended the scene.”

“There was also a push tray that was about one meter in height which is suspected to have been used by the deceased to access the roof truss. The body was searched, and no suicidal note was found,” he said.

Inspector Ncube said the body was conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) and investigations are in progress.
