Bulawayo residents face 3-day water cut for crucial maintenance works

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has announced a three-day water shutoff across the entire city, due to scheduled maintenance works and cable installation on the line from Inyankuni Dam by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).

Only the Central Business District and Industry will be spared.

The maintenance works are expected to start from Monday, May 20th, 2024, until Wednesday at 5 PM.

“This maintenance will result in reduced raw water pumping to the city, impacting treatment at Criterion Water Works and leading to reservoir instability,” Town Clerk Christopher Dube said in a statement. “To prevent reservoir depletion, the BCC will temporarily suspend the current water shedding program and cut off supply to all residential areas for the three-day period.”

Normal water supply is expected to resume on Wednesday following the completion of maintenance and stabilisation of reservoir levels.

Dube advised residents are advised to store sufficient water for the three-day period.
