A man from Bulawayo’s Burnside suburb narrowly escaped death after being brutally attacked by two assailants who lured him to a local bar under the pretext of finding sex workers.
Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the incident and said police are searching for Lameck Mguni and an accomplice in connection with the assault.
The victim, a 46-year-old man, sustained severe injuries, including a swollen head, deep cuts on his head, a cut on his nose, and bruises on his hands and legs, according to Inspector Ncube.
“We are looking for Lameck Mguni, a 32-year-old male from Douglasdale, Bulawayo, and his unidentified accomplice. The two lured the victim to a local sports bar in Burnside, asking him to accompany them to Starling Drive to meet prostitutes,” Inspector Ncube explained.
“While walking a few meters from the bar, one of the suspects picked up an iron bar from the bush and began assaulting the victim. They then used an okapi knife to stab him several times in the head. After the attack, the suspects fled into the bush, leaving the victim bleeding on the ground,” Ncube said.
The police are also investigating two other unrelated cases of attempted murder.
“In Emakhandeni, we arrested Godfrey Manyoka for assaulting a man he accused of having an affair with his girlfriend,” Inspector Ncube said. “Following a verbal altercation, Manyoka produced an okapi knife and stabbed the victim in the back, chest, and leg. The victim sustained multiple cuts.”
The third incident occurred in Umguza, where two women were ambushed by four men while returning from a party at 4 a.m. One woman managed to escape, but the other was assaulted by two of the attackers. The four suspects remain at large.
Inspector Ncube urged the public to avoid violence and carrying dangerous weapons, advising individuals to seek mediation from third parties to resolve conflicts peacefully.
