Aspiring councillor promises to address connectivity issues
The aspiring councillor for Simbumbumbi, Ward 7, Gwanda North, Dalubuhle Maphosa, has promised to advocate for improved connectivity in the area to have improved communication.
Maphosa who is an independent was addressing community members at a meeting held by Chief Khulumani Mathema at Sitezi recently.
Maphosa said connectivity is a necessity, especially for schools because children in his area are lagging.
โOur area has poor network connectivity even in schools our children are lagging because there are no network boosters around here. Already there are many computers that were donated to schools but they are gathering dust. What good are they if they are just for show? Our children should know how to use them and how to navigate the internet so that they may be up to date and not miss out on various opportunities,โ Maphosa said.
He highlighted that education is another key issue that he intends to prioritise should he be voted councillor.
โWe do not have enough classroom blocks in schools. Most have dilapidated some are now old and need to be renovated. Accommodation for teachers needs to be provided as well. Teachers need to have water and electricity and connectivity at their quarters so that they may be motivated to do their work,โ he said.
Maphosa said he will also push for business opportunities for locals to improve their living conditions.
โWe need to revive business opportunities in our community. We need to get spaces allocated to us to start our businesses, be it retail shops, various projects or flea markets. We should be given first preference and benefit from our resources so that we may develop our area,โ he said.
โI will also advocate for unity. Many times we segregate each other based on our political affiliations but we are a family and we should live in harmony. Even when it comes to services and opportunities some get left out because they do not affiliate to certain parties. The most affected becomes those that are apolitical. Everyone should get equal opportunities because politics aside we are one united family.โ
