Fatima Primary appeals for renovation donations

Fatima Primary School in Silobela is appealing for donations to renovate its administrative block, two classrooms and teachers cottage destroyed by whirlwinds during the weekend.

This comes at a time when the Meteorological Service Department (MSD) issued warnings against strong winds, violent storms and thunderstorms that followed the intense heat experienced recently across the country.

Some schools, mostly in rural areas have been damaged by the strong whirlwinds as most of the structures are now old.

In an interview with CITE, Fatima Headmaster, Tabona John Mugaviri confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude that ‘luckily’ no leaner was hurt.

“The administration block was blown away together with classrooms for Grade four students. Luckily, it was a Sunday around 4pm and no one was hurt in the incident,” he said.

Mugaviri added that a cottage that housed four teachers was also destroyed by the whirlwinds.

“The school is therefore appealing to well-wishers to assist with building material so that we can renovate the destroyed buildings,” he said.
“We are appealing for building material such as asbestos, cement to renovate the walls, nails and other requirements necessary for building.”

Those willing to assist can send through their donations through the Eco-cash number *151*2*3*225843* 4556064401080#.

Alternatively, well-wishers can use the school’s bank account, which is ZB Kwekwe, account number: 4556064401080.

Meanwhile, during the 2020 National Budget presentation, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube said construction of additional classroom blocks, as well as rehabilitation of existing ones, especially in the most disadvantaged areas where some learners are currently using tobacco bans and other such infrastructure, would be financially supported.
