Students barred from graduation for wearing ‘wrong’ attire
Hillside Teachers’ College in Bulawayo reportedly turned away some of its graduating students for turning up with the wrong regalia.
The college held its 63rd graduation ceremony on Friday, with some graduates reportedly forced to fork out more money to purchase “the correct regalia”.
A source revealed to CITE that some students were turned away as they were accused of having wrong gowns.
“Hillside Teachers’ College turned away some of its students yesterday saying that the gowns they had bought were not the right ones despite having purchased them at the college,” said the source.
“Other students were forced to add another ZW$80 for them to buy another gown for the graduation today.”
Contacted for a comment the Principal Linda Sibindi confirmed the development.
“Yes, we did turn away some students as they had the wrong regalia for the ceremony, they had come with the wrong colours and not the ones used by the college graduation ceremonies.
“As a college, we have specific colours that we want for our graduation gowns hence that is why we turned them away, we want the correct colours of these gowns,” she said.
