Bulawayo residents’ leader Victor Nhliziyo dies

Ward 22 Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairman Victor Nhliziyo has died, councillor Mmeli Bruce Moyo has announced.

He passed on Tuesday morning.

Nhliziyo worked closely with Moyo after he won the Ward 22 seat in a by-election in December 2023.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Moyo said Nhliziyo had “stood with us from the very beginning” and believed leadership was “about service, accountability and standing with the people”.

“His passing is not only a loss to his family and the Residents Association; it is a loss to the entire struggle for community development, accountable local government and people-centred leadership,” Moyo said.

He described Nhliziyo as “principled, loyal, dependable and deeply committed to the people he served”.

Moyo said the ward would honour Nhliziyo “not merely through words of condolence, but through action”, pledging to continue the work they had started together.

The cause of death, Nhliziyo’s age and funeral arrangements had not been disclosed.
