Highlanders set for centenary charity golf day in Bulawayo

A charity golf day to celebrate Highlanders Football Club’s 100th anniversary will tee off in Bulawayo on 14 August 2026, with organisers setting a US$100 entry fee for participating golfers.

Golfers will be charged the fee to take part in the Highlanders Charity Golf Day at Bulawayo Country Club, as the historic football club marks its centenary celebrations.

The event is expected to attract participants from across Zimbabwe and abroad, with teams competing in four-balls. Organisers say the tournament will raise funds for charitable causes while commemorating 100 years of Highlanders Football Club.

Zimbabwe Golf Association board member Martin Chikwana said the entry fee had been set at US$100 per player, with proceeds earmarked for selected charitable institutions.

“The fee to participate will be US$100 each and teams are going to be in groups of four,” Chikwana said. “We have listed charity institutions that are going to be the beneficiaries. Everyone can sign up. There is a flyer on our social media pages where people can register, and we will run further awareness campaigns.”

He said interest had already been received from both local and international golfers.

“We are celebrating Highlanders for being there for 100 years,” he said. “The event will commence on August 14 2026 at Bulawayo Country Club. We even have people from outside the country who have put their names down to participate.”

Tournament chairman Roger Muhlwa said funds raised would be channelled towards charitable work and youth development programmes.

“Whatever money we raise is going to be channelled to charity and help those that have fallen on hard times, and it will also be used to train young people in football and golf,” Muhlwa said. “We are targeting at least 150 to 160 participants. It will start at daybreak and finish at sunset.”

Event organiser Nicholas Nyathi called for wider publicity as preparations intensify.

“All we are asking for is support in publicising this event so that we can celebrate 100 years of the club,” he said.
