A two-year-old girl who was abducted in broad daylight at a shopping mall in Bulawayo has been found alive and reunited with her mother.

Asanda Ndlovu was taken from Meikles Mall at about 10:30 am on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation and a public appeal for information.

CCTV footage circulated on social media showed a man carrying the toddler out of the city centre mall. Her mother, who works as a shopkeeper there, had briefly lost sight of her daughter while serving a customer before realising she was missing.

The breakthrough came on Thursday morning after a member of the public reported seeing a child matching Asanda’s description at a block of flats in the city.

Officers raided the property and found the toddler, who was reportedly unharmed. She was later reunited with her mother.

A woman who had been caring for the child was arrested at the scene. Video footage filmed during the operation showed her being led away in handcuffs while protesting her innocence.
