Two young boys who went missing at Bhinyela Dam in Sibantubanye Village, Ward 7, Filabusi, have been found dead after a police Sub Aqua Unit retrieved their bodies on Tuesday afternoon.

The juveniles, aged five and three, disappeared while their mother, 27-year-old Sheron Masuku, was washing clothes at the dam around 10:00 AM on December 8, 2025. When she noticed they were no longer playing nearby, she discovered only their shoes on a rock close to the water, prompting fears they had fallen in.

Matabeleland South Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube confirmed that officers are now investigating a case of sudden death by drowning.

“The Sub Aqua team retrieved two bodies yesterday in the afternoon,” Dube said. “We are encouraging parents to monitor children and ensure they do not play around water bodies, especially during the rainy season. We also urge communities to avoid crossing flooded rivers.”

Police say further details will be released as investigations continue.
