Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Zimbabwe on Monday staged a well-attended roadshow in Nkulumane constituency as the party ramps up its campaign ahead of the December 20 by-election.
The seat became vacant following the tragic death of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member of parliament Desire Moyo in a car accident near Shangani river two months ago.
Led by the party’s president Innocent Ndibali, the campaign convoy kicked off at Saimart Nkulumane 11 shopping centre before moving through several high-traffic areas including Sekusile, Munyoro, Number Six Garage, and Nkulumane 4.
Party leaders and supporters distributed flyers and engaged directly with voters about issues affecting the constituency.
A notable highlight of the day was a rare show of political tolerance at Munyoro Shopping Centre where EFF campaigners briefly co-campaigned alongside their Zanu-PF counterparts.
“What happened at Munyoro was encouraging. It showed that despite political differences, we can still respect each other and campaign peacefully. This is the Zimbabwe we want where democracy is not a battlefield but a platform for ideas,” said Ndibali in an interview with Cite.
EFF’s candidate for the by-election, Alson Moyo said his campaign is centred on restoring service delivery in Nkulumane, one of Bulawayo’s most densely populated constituencies.
“Our people have suffered for too long with burst sewer pipes, unreliable water supplies and neglected infrastructure. If elected, I will prioritise fixing the sewerage system, improving water availability and ensuring Nkulumane gets the development it deserves,” Moyo said in an interview during the roadshow.
He added that the response from residents has strengthened his confidence ahead of the polls.
“The reception has been overwhelming. People want representation that listens and we are here to offer that kind of leadership,” he said.
Ndibali echoed the optimism, stating that the EFF is gaining traction in communities that have long felt sidelined.
“Nkulumane is one of the most populated constituencies and voters here want change. We are confident that the EFF is presenting a clear alternative and that the people will entrust us with this seat,” he added.
The Nkulumane by-election is expected to draw significant attention as political parties and independent candidates test their strength ahead of future national elections.
With campaigning intensifying, Monday’s peaceful interactions between rival parties have offered a hopeful glimpse into the potential for a more tolerant political landscape.
