Preparations are complete for the two-day Luswingo Kalanga Cultural Festival, which kicks off tomorrow at the Luswingo Heritage Site in Tokwana, about 36 kilometers north of Plumtree.

First held in 2014, the annual festival aims to celebrate and preserve Kalanga heritage through cultural exchanges, performances, and traditional cuisine.

Festival Organising Committee chairperson Sotsha Moyo said all preparations have been finalised and everything is in place for a successful event.

“We are on track accordingly,” he said.

Moyo urged attendees to come prepared for a fun-filled and educational experience.

“There will be educational sessions, traditional Kalanga cuisine, and mesmerising Kalanga dances. All activities will run between 09:30 and 18:00,” he said.

This year’s festival will span two days. The opening day will feature intergenerational dialogue sessions, where elders will share stories, traditions, and guidance with the youth.

The second day will include the official opening ceremony, traditional foods, performances by various dance groups, and a guided tour of the Luswingo ruins.

The festival is organised under the Kalanga Language and Cultural Development Association (KLCDA), which advocates for the revival and recognition of the Kalanga language, now one of Zimbabwe’s 16 officially recognised languages.
