A UK-based Bukalanga organisation has donated financial assistance to families who lost relatives in the Madlambudzi killings, which left five villagers dead last month.
The Bukalanga Gathering United Kingdom (BGUK) handed over £750 (US$971) to the bereaved families, following the violent attack on 20 August in Matabeleland South Province.
The victims were identified as 101-year-old Elliot Khupe, Catra Matsika (72), six-year-old Tiffan Surprise Ndlovu, Constance Sibanda (66) and 97-year-old Butho Tshuma.
According to police, the suspect, Phamani Sibanda, 43, went on a three-hour rampage, using a Mopani log and sharp objects to attack villagers. He has since been arrested and is facing charges of murdering five people and attempting to kill two others.
One of the injured, a 90-year-old woman, remains in hospital at Plumtree District Hospital, while another victim has been discharged.
Kenneth Hikwa, Chairperson of BGUK, said the donation was a gesture of solidarity and compassion.
“On behalf of the Executive Committee and membership of the Bukalanga Gathering United Kingdom (BGUK), we extend our deepest condolences to the families and community of Madlambudzi following the tragic events of 20 August 2025,” he said.
Founded in 2016, BGUK is based in Nottinghamshire, UK, and works to promote unity and cultural exchange within the Bukalanga community. The charity runs programmes in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, focusing on heritage, mutual respect and community development.
