A local football club in Ntabende, Phat-Ore FC hosted a vibrant soccer tournament at the village in Ward 19, Umzinganwane District as a way of campaigning against drug and substance abuse.

The event carried the powerful theme “Say No to Drug Abuse,”aiming to educate and empower youth through sport.

Though the original plan included both soccer and netball matches, only the soccer teams participated on the day.

Spectators were treated to passionate and competitive games throughout the event where four winning teams, Zimbili, Phat -ore, Atomic and Howmine, each walked away with US$100. 

One of the youths from Zimbili Village who attended the event, Thomas Bhebhe,marvelled at the good sportsmanship demonstrated at the games.

“The teams which came to play demonstrated outstanding performance and discipline, aligning with the tournament’s goal of promoting positive values,” he said.

The organisers of the event Munyaradzi Nyika and Julius Gumbi expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the impact of the message delivered. 

“It is important to use such community events to raise awareness, reduce youth vulnerability and encourage healthy lifestyles,” Gumbi said.

Nyika expressed gratitude to local mining companies, Phat-Ore, Matchstick, Midas, Nyoka and local business people from Ntabende shopping center for supporting them in their preparation for the tournament.

“To see the event well attended by community members, local leaders and youth, shows there is strong support for anti-drug efforts and highlighting the power of sport in driving social change,” he said.
