A Bulawayo man from Pelandaba West suburb was allegedly robbed of ZAR60,000 and US$4,000 at gunpoint outside a food outlet in the city centre on Sunday evening by three unknown men.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the suspects ambushed the man while he was waiting for his food order and fired shots at him, injuring his hand.

“On August 10, 2025, at around 6:45 pm, the complainant, a 33-year-old man from Pelandaba West, Bulawayo, parked his white Nissan Note outside a food outlet at the corner of Fife Street and 12th Avenue, Bulawayo,” Insp Msebele said.

“He placed his order and returned to sit in his car. While inside the vehicle, three unknown men armed with a pistol approached him. One suspect tried to forcefully open the driver’s side door but failed as it was locked from inside.”

Insp Msebele said one of the armed robbers then used an unknown object to smash the window and fired four shots at the complainant, injuring the palm of his right hand.

“The complainant ran out of his vehicle, leaving behind a black bag containing US$4,000 and ZAR60,000. The suspects took the bag and walked away,” she said.

“The complainant went to ZRP Bulawayo Central to report the matter and was referred to hospital for medical examination.”

Inspector Msebele urged the public to avoid carrying large sums of money, warning that it could make them targets for robberies.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.
