Residents of Zimbili, Matabeleland South, are coming together to build a much-needed primary school in their area, a project that has become a symbol of hope and unity for the community.
Zimbili Primary School is being constructed between Zimbili A and B villages near the Fourgate business centre in Umzingwane. With only one classroom block and basic toilet facilities in place, the school is far from complete, but the community’s commitment is strong.
Currently, children must walk long distances to attend school elsewhere, a challenge that affects both their academic performance and overall well-being.
Ward 19 councillor Pilate Sibanda has called on all residents to support the ongoing construction effort.
“I am urging every member of our community to come together and support the completion of this school,” he said.
“We need your time, resources, and effort to build additional classrooms and teachers’ accommodation. Let’s work together to secure a better future for our children. Every brick, every nail, and every contribution counts.”
Councillor Sibanda said the school is a crucial step in advancing development in Zimbili.
“Our goal is to provide a quality learning environment for our children and adequate facilities for teachers,” he said.
Isaac Smoko, a member of the school’s building committee, said he was encouraged by the progress so far.
“I’m thrilled to see the school taking shape in our community,” he said. “As a parent, I look forward to seeing our children learning in a safe and supportive environment.”
He also echoed the call for unity.
“We’re asking every community member to join hands in this effort. Whether it’s labour, materials, or financial support, every contribution makes a difference,” Smoko said.
