A 20-month-old infant is fighting for his life at a Bulawayo hospital after his mother allegedly assaulted him by slamming him onto the ground and kicking him in the face.

Bulawayo police confirmed the arrest of the woman, stating that she is suspected to be struggling with drug addiction and mental instability.

Deputy Provincial Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said the incident occurred on February 5, 2025, at around 4 PM.

“The infant’s aunt received an anonymous phone call alerting her that the child’s mother was holding him by the legs, striking his body against the ground, and kicking his face. The baby is in serious condition at the hospital,” she said.

In a separate case, police recorded another incident of attempted murder involving a 26-year-old man who was found lying in a pool of blood in Pumula South, with deep wounds on his head, back, and legs.

Asst Insp Msebele said the incident took place on February 7, at around 11 PM.

“The victim was discovered by a passerby returning from a local shopping center. He is currently admitted to the hospital and receiving medical attention. We are conducting investigations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this attack,” she said.
