Honda Fit runs over 11 pedestrians, killing two

A speeding Honda Fit driver from Bulawayo lost control of his vehicle and ran over 11 pedestrians, who were coming from an all-night prayer. Two of the victims were killed, while nine others sustained injuries.

Bulawayo Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Sunday morning along Nketa Drive near Chicken Corner.

Asst Insp Msebele said one of the victims died at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead upon admission to the hospital.

“We received a report of a fatal road accident that occurred along Nketa Drive near Chicken Corner, Bulawayo, which claimed the lives of two females aged 41 and 17,” she said.

“The driver, a 29-year-old male, was speeding with three passengers on board when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off course and hit 11 pedestrians who were walking in the same direction. One of the passengers in the car also sustained injuries.”

Asst Insp Msebele added that the injured victims were taken to Mpilo Hospital for medical attention.

She urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving and encouraged pedestrians to stay alert while walking on the road.
