By Ndumiso Tshuma

The Nkulumane constituency has launched a 5-year development plan to transform the area into a thriving community.

The plan, namedย  “People’s Agenda,” was launchedย on Saturday at Nkulumane Hall and was developed in consultation with residents, political parties, church leaders, war veterans, persons with disabilities, and other stakeholders.

The plan, launched by Member of Parliament for Nkulumaneย Desire Moyo, aims to address the collective grievances of the community, including lack of representation, inadequate infrastructure, and poor services.ย

โ€œThis constituency plan that has been selected by the people of Nkulumane has to work for the people of Nkulumane for the current term. The participatory community is the one that developed this strategic constituency development plan. It can only be a development plan if we are all participating and input into it, from schools, business leaders, headmasters, war veterans to the clinics,โ€ said Moyo.

Moyo added that the constituency development plan is expected to be funded by the government’s Community Development Fund (CDF), with a grant of US$50,000 already allocated for the project. The funds will be used to support various initiatives outlined in the plan.

Ward 22 councillor Mmeli Bruce Moyo said the constituency development committee, which is made up of residents from Ward 22 and Ward 23, said there is a need for public toilets and stands for local informal traders near shopping malls, as well as solar lights, to improve lighting in the area.

โ€œOther initiatives include developing a youth centre to provide activities and reduce drug abuse among youths, as well as fencing around schools like Nketa 6 primary and Nkulumane to improve safety and security,โ€ said Cllr Moyo.

Speaking at the launch of the plan, Andrew Ndlovu the chairperson of the constituency development committee called for unity and cooperation among stakeholders to achieve the goals outlined in the plan.

โ€œWe want everyone to unite and we help each other to achieve this agenda. This is the first constituency plan that has all stakeholders united to achieve one goal. We need to have terms of reference because there is a lot of paperwork that needs to be done. A development plan needs accountability of the CDF allocation,โ€ said Ndlovu.
