Bulawayo men arrested for vicious attack on friend
Police in Bulawayo have arrested two men from Pumula North suburb for attempted murder after they brutally assaulted their friend over an undisclosed matter.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening around 7 PM while the three were drinking beer.
Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the incident.
Nhlanhla Hobane (35) and Victor Mazorodze (35) allegedly ganged up against their friend, Innocent Phuthi, punching, kicking, and striking him with an unknown object until he became unconscious.
“On February 8, 2024, at around 7:00 PM, Phuthi and his three friends were drinking beer. Phuthi, Mazorodze, and Hobane picked an argument over an undisclosed matter. Hobane and Mazorodze teamed up and started to assault Phuthi with booted feet and fists several times all over the body. They then used an unknown object to strike him on the head. He sustained a cut on the forehead and started bleeding. He then fell and became unconscious.”
Insp Ncube said a police report was subsequently made, and Phuthi was taken to Mpilo Hospital, where he was admitted and is in critical condition.
“We urge members of the public to desist from picking unnecessary fights as they risk committing murder cases in the name of a simple fight. Engaging in any form of crime affects individuals as they will spend time attending courts or even being imprisoned, leaving families without anyone to provide for them.”
