MRP accuses Zanu PF of disrupting their roadshow

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has denounced Zanu PF for allegedly attempting to sabotage its roadshow campaign over the weekend in Bulawayoโ€™s Nketa suburb. ย

MRP was doing a roadshow organised by its members in Ward 22 under Nkulumane constituency at Mnethi Shopping Centre when it claimed that members of Zanu PF attempted to disrupt their campaign by deliberately driving towards its members.

โ€œOn Saturday, July 22, 2023,ย  the enemyโ€™s envy rose to uncontrollable levels when MRP scaled up its campaign through a roadshow at Mnethi Shopping Centre in Nketa 6 where party cadres were addressing passers-by and vendors. Culprits, obviously Zanu members and suspected members of the Central Intelligence Organisation,ย  in the company of others wanted to disrupt our smooth-flowing campaign proceedings,โ€ said MRP national spokesperson, Velile Moyo.

According to Moyo, Zanu PF members purposefully steered their car towards MRP members with the intention to intimidate them.

โ€œThis was a clear intent to do harm to Moccson Moyo, our MRP candidate for Ward 22 in the elections. Unfortunately for Zanu, MRP will not be shoved around,โ€ said the national spokesperson, who added that MRP members โ€œconfronted the car and temporarily snatched the car keys.โ€

โ€œThere was a commotion, but as MRP we continued spreading our message and even distributed fliers.โ€

Moyo said MRP would not be deterred by Zanu  PF and has lined up a series of such roadshows until the โ€˜last permissible minuteโ€™ before elections are held.

โ€œThe party will not, at any moment, pave the way to Zanu.  We have never disturbed any Zanu activity, why do they want to stand in our way? We have always said that the revolution which MRP initiated is unstoppable. It cannot be quenched despite the opponentโ€™s effort. It is sustained by an undying revolutionary spirit with which Mthwakazi people are engulfed,โ€ Moyo said.

โ€œWe say in isiNdebele, โ€˜kukhonkotha ehambayoโ€™ If MRP were an insignificant party, no one would bother disrupting her rallies and other activities. The incident is one such proof that the MRPโ€™s presence in the political landscape is being felt.โ€

Meanwhile, MRP also condemned the attack of journalists by Zanu PF members in Bulawayo while covering skirmishes allegedly caused by the ruling party at the Fifth Avenue market on July 17 2023.

โ€œAmong the victims were VOA news correspondent Annahstacia Ndlovu and her colleagues Pamenus Tuso and Lungelo Ndlovu. We donโ€™t accept such levels of madness and disrespect of people in Mthwakazi.ย  Let Zanu practice their violent political culture in Mashonaland,ย and leave us to practice our values of respect for fellow humans,โ€ Moyo said.
