Woman kidnapped, drugged and robbed by pirate taxi driver

Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case in which a 36-year-old woman from Emganwini suburb was kidnapped, drugged and robbed of her property after she boarded a pirate taxi to the city centre.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 8 am when she boarded a silver Honda Fit with the intention of going to the city centre.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We are receiving numerous reports of robberies perpetrated by the crew using this type of transport. The latest being of a woman aged 36 years from Egwanwini which happened on the 29th January 2023, she boarded a silver Honda Fit near AFM church along Plumtree Road at about 0845 hours in Emganwini intending to go into the CBD,” said Inspector Ncube.

“She was in the process kidnapped, drugged and later dumped about 500 meters from where she had boarded the Honda fit. When she came to her senses, two hours later she discovered that she had lost US$250, a Brazilian wig, and a pair of white three leaves shoes, this is the case being investigated by Nkulumane police station.”

Inspector Ncube warned members of the public from using unregistered vehicles and urged them to opt for registered public transport operators.
