Woman arrested for Binga man’s murder
Police in Binga, Matabeleland North have arrested a woman aged 62 on suspicion of murdering a fellow villager whose dead body was found near her homestead on Saturday.
According to a report made to the police, Berita Ngwenya of Masawu village is in police custody assisting with investigations.
This follows the death of Mecksen Mudenda (52) of Makunyu village under Chief Pashu whose body was found with three stab wounds on the right side of the forehead and a blunt wound on the head above the right eye.
Philemon Mugande (45) reportedly discovered the body and alerted police who saw that there were signs that it had been dragged from Ngwenya’s homestead to the scene where it was found.
Upon investigating, police reportedly found blood traces at Ngwenya’s homestead where the deceased’s pair of slippers were also recovered from underneath a granary.
“On 3 September at around 9 am the informant Philemon Mugande reported to the police that he bumped on the deceased’s body near Chinengo shops. The body was lying facing upwards and there was a trail showing it had been pulled from Ngwenya’s homestead to the scene,” said police in the report.
Ngwenya was arrested and is assisting police with investigations while the deceased’s body was expected to be ferried to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem.
