Two women, minors raped in Byo

A 19-year-old woman and her 10-year-old sister from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb were robbed and raped by two unknown armed men.

The incident happened on Sunday at around 3 am.

The suspects who were armed with a kitchen knife are still at large.

“On the 26th of June 2022 at around 0330 hours, two unknown accused persons were armed with a kitchen knife, scissors, and used an unknown object to open the sitting room window which is next to the main door, and unlocked the door from inside and gained entry into the house,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube.

He added that one of the suspects entered the bedroom where one of the victims was sleeping and force-marched the woman to the lounge and forced her to remove her clothes and raped her with protection.

“The second suspected proceeded to the other bedroom where he ordered the juvenile to undress and raped her once with protection.”

He said the robbers then ransacked the house and took a Huawei p10 cell phone and left.

“The victims informed their brother who was sleeping in his spare bedroom and he escorted them to ZRP Cowdray park to file a report and they were referred to the hospital,” said Inspector Ncube.

Meanwhile, in another rape incident, police arrested Hitler Chanda Chaterera, a prophet aged 32 of Mushandike village, Masvingo for rapping two sisters while claiming to be spiritually cleansing them.

The matter came to light after one of the victims, a 16-year-old juvenile missed her monthly period.

“The accused was summoned by the victim’s family to come and help the family spiritually. Chaterera later called for a one-on-one session of praying for the family. He told the first victim that the problems on you are only to be healed after having sexual intercourse and she was lured into it,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said the prophet later summoned the second victim, a 26-year-old woman, and did the same to her and left.

“On the 26th of June 2022, the cousin’s sister escorted the victims to file a report which led to the arrest of Chaterera. Victims were referred to the hospital for medical examination,” said Inspector Ncube.
