ZAPU has accused Zanu PF of causing the suffering of its citizens including those domiciled in other countries through its misgovernance of the country.
The opposition party says it plans to stage a protest at Munhumutapa government offices in Harare over the death of Zimbabwean Elvis Nyathi who was killed in South Africa.
Nyathi (43) who hailed from Malaba, in Matobo District, Matabeleland South was stoned and burnt to death by a mob in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg under Operation Dudula, a South African anti-immigrant vigilante group.
Munhumutapa building also houses President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offices.
The party believes the Zanu PF led government is to blame for Zimbabwe’s economic challenges that has forced many people to flee to neighbouring countries seeking better pastures.
“ZAPU as a party believes that the Zanu government is responsible for both the social and economic ills that push the people of Zimbabwe out of the country,” said the party’s Secretary-General Mthulisi Hanana in a letter written to the Officer Commanding Harare.
“As a party we believe that the misgovernance of this country by Zanu successive governments is responsible for the death of Nyathi and the plight of many other Zimbabwean who are suffering outside the country.”
Hanana claimed, therefore, his party were mobilising Zimbabweans to protest against misrule, corruption, disputed elections and human rights violations.
“Human rights violations are the centre of which is failure to resolve the Gukurahundi Genocide, and economic decay amongst many other issues whose net effect has been the forced migration of our people to foreign lands where they are no longer wanted and are now being killed,” noted the SG.
The SG also added that ZAPU was expecting 500 people to take part in that march.
“The protest is scheduled to start at 10 am to 1 pm. The convenor of the protest is ZAPU vice president Derek Katsenga, contactable on +263 776 407 444,” Hanana said in the letter.
“Please be notified accordingly.”
This will be ZAPU’s second proposed march as the opposition party is also planning to stage another demonstration in Bulawayo, demanding the suspension of Tendy Three Investments (TTI) operations, who are implementing a ‘smart’ parking system in the city citing that their charges are too high while their contract was granted without the full participation of residents.
