Inyathi police bust 5-member gang
Police in Inyathi, Nkayi district have arrested a five-member gang that had been terrorising residents breaking into homes and stealing valuable items.
The arrest has also led to the clearing of 11 unlawful entry and theft cases that police were seized with.
On 3 March police officers arrested one, Eddington Machazi (29) who had broken into a house in Inyathi. Machazi of Badala village 2 in Inyathi was stopped in tracks when the home owner shouted for help before he bolted. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the development adding that they have since arrested Machazi’s four accomplicees.
“On 3 March 2022, ZRP police details stationed at Inyathi in Nkayi district arrested Eddington Machazi (29) in connection with cases of unlawful entry and theft. The circumstances are that in the same day the axxd who resides at Badala village 2 in Inyathi entered the complainant’s house through an open window and upon being discovered he ran away. The complainant advised the police who gave a chase and caught him,” said Insp. Banda.
He said further investigation led to the recovery of various stolen electronic gadgets ranging from 4 television plasma sets, 2x100Watts solar pans and 24 cellphones among other valuable items.
Insp. Banda said Machazi went on to implicate his accomplicees paving way for the conclusion of 11 unlawful entry and theft cases police were investigating.
“The accused person implicated 4 accomplices in these cases of unlawful entry and theft and they have all been arrested. The arrests led to the clearance of 11 cases of unlawful entry and theft that were reported by several complainants living within Inyathi. Various complainants have since identified and recovered their stolen property. The value recovered is yet to be ascertained and investigation are still in progress.”
He implored members of the public to invest in security systems to safeguard their valuable properties.
