ZIMBABWE’S Covid-19 infections and deaths are continuing on an upward trend with the country yesterday having recorded 826 infections and 17 deaths up from 766 and one respectively registered Wednesday.
On Monday 13 Zimbabweans succumbed to the pandemic.
As at 24 June 2021 the country has recorded a total of 44, 306 Covid-19 cases, 37, 524 recoveries and 1, 709 deaths.
This comes at a time when some areas considered hot spots across the country have since been placed under localised lockdown. These include Nkulumane, Emakhandeni and northern suburbs clinical districts of Bulawayo, Kariba, Karoi, Chinhoyi, Kwekwe and many others.
In Bulawayo, police have since imposed a dusk to dawn curfew and ordered businesses to operate from 8am to 3pm as part of the measures to curb the spread of the pandemic.
“Eight hundred and twenty-six (826) new cases (825 local and one returnee from South Africa and 17 deaths [were] reported today (Thursday),” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) in its daily update.
“Six of the nine deaths reported by Mashonaland West occurred over a period of seven days between 18 and 23 June and had not been reported. Seven-day rolling average for new cases rose to 482 today from 417 yesterday.
MoHCC said of the 4, 888 Covid-19 tests conducted Thursday, positivity rate was 16, 9 percent adding 47 new recoveries were registered on the day under review with national recovery rate now at 85 percent.
Active Covid-19 cases in the country have gone up to 5. 073 as a result of the surge in infections.
“As of 23 June 2021 at 1500 hours there were 257 hospitalised cases, new admissions (38), asymptomatic (74), mild to moderate (138), severe (39) and 9 in Intensive Care Units,” said the Health Ministry.
