Covid-19 outbreak at Embakwe High School

Embakwe High School in Plumtree has become the latest school to record a Covid-19 outbreak after ninety learners tested positive yesterday.
This comes after Sacred Heart schools in Esigodini recorded 231 positive cases a week ago.
In Bulawayo, Girls College and Mzilikazi Primary School also reported positive cases.
In an interview with CITE, the Matabeleland South Provincial Director for Epidemiology and Disease Control Dr Philip Muza, confirmed the latest cases.
“This is a localised outbreak which we are working towards containing on site. We are tracing all contacts that may be outside the school. Currently investigations are ongoing and we will comment when further details are available,” he said.
Contacted for comment the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Director of Communications and Advocay Taungana Ndoro confirmed and said the ministry has has all school heads to follow the World Health Organization procedures.
“Yes I can confirm having reports of Covid-19 outbreak at Embakwe mission in Plumtree where 90 students tested positive to the virus. However, as the ministry we have urged all school heads to take Standard Operation Procedures as clearly spelt by WHO Covid 19 guidelines,” said Ndoro.
