Power surge disrupts water supplies in Byo

An electricity fault at Fernhill Booster Station has affected water supplies to all areas in Bulawayo, the local authority announced, Tuesday.

In a statement, Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the problem affects the whole City`s water supply system.

โ€œThe City of Bulawayo would like to advice the public of water supply interruption to all the areas across the City with effect from Tuesday the 1stย of September 2020 due to a power surge at Fernhill Booster Station that has affected clear water and raw water delivery to Tuli Reservoir and Criterion water works respectively,โ€ said Dube.

โ€œThis affects the whole Cityโ€™s water supply system until the problem is resolvedโ€.

He added that water supplies will resumed once the reservoir levels allow.

โ€œConsumers are further advised that water supply to both Eastern and Western areas will be closed and shall be available when reservoir levels per each reservoir zone allow after the rectification of the above-mentioned development,โ€ he said.

The second largest City is facing its worst water crisis following severe droughts that has affected the Matabeleland region with the remaining supply dams are currently at 24 percent capacity.
