Killer elephant gunned down

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (Zimparks) rangers in Victoria Falls have put down an elephant that trampled to death a homeless man on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, lived on the streets in the resort town.

According to eye witnesses, the bull elephant had been roaming around the central business district and charging at people who live at Railways houses behind Old Pick and Pay supermarket.

The deceased who is suspected to have been suffering from a mental condition, threw stones at the elephant and it charged at him and trampled him to death.

The elephant was immediately tracked down by Zimparks rangers in collaboration with private professional hunters and it was gunned down close to Victoria Falls police station at around 5PM.

Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said the death of the man was unfortunate. 

“We are saddened by this man’s death and we urge people to always report animal problem to us before going to the press so that we address the matter.”
