16 people die of Covid-19 in Byo

Bulawayo recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 related deaths after 16 people succumbed to the respiratory disease on Sunday, with the pandemic claiming 56 lives countrywide.

912 new confirmed cases were recorded on the same day.

Covid-19 cases had been surging this past week, with the highest number of new cases rising to 2 683 in 24 hours on Friday.

“Mashonaland West had the highest number of new cases, 230, followed by Harare which had 158 cases then Bulawayo with 112 cases,” read the report. 

“Mashonaland East had 103 cases, Manicaland 65, Masvingo 64, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South recorded 41 and 43 cases respectively while Midlands recorded 34.”

The report noted that 4 505 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. 

“There are 684 hospitalised cases where 83 are new admissions 83, 188 are asymptomatic, 394 are mild to moderate, 78 are severe and 24 are in Intensive Care Units,” the report read.

“9 361 people received their 1st dose, bringing the cumulative figure to 895 980 while 4 916 received their 2nd dose bringing the cumulative total to 595 417.”

Zimbabwe has now recorded 67 765 cases, 45 617 recoveries and 2 185 deaths.
