13-year-old prodigy excels in Cambridge examinations

Thirteen-year-old Adornai Siphesihle Moyo has astounded the academic community with his exceptional performance in the Cambridge examinations, demonstrating remarkable intelligence and dedication at such a young age.

Adornai, who completed his Oโ€™Levels in pure sciences through homeschooling, excelled in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. His results include an A in Computer Science, a B in Mathematics, and Cs in Physics and Chemistry, among others.

Driven by an ambition to study Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, or Nuclear Physics at university, Adornaiโ€™s achievements highlight his commitment to academic excellence.

The Cambridge examination is globally renowned for its rigorous standards, making his success even more impressive. Adornai has earned admiration from his teachers and family for his extraordinary capabilities.

Speaking to CITE, his mother, Sibusisiwe Moyo, shared how Adornaiโ€™s exceptional abilities became evident at the age of four.

โ€œHe spoke fluent English in kindergarten and could perform mathematical calculations. In Grade Zero, he amazed his teachers to the point of frustration when he wasnโ€™t given challenging tasks,โ€ Moyo said.

She recounted an incident where a teacher requested his transfer to another class due to his advanced skills. โ€œThe teacher surrendered him to the office, acknowledging that he was too sharp for her class. He would read everything on the board before the lessons even started,โ€ she added.

Adornai excelled in spelling complex words, multiplication, and reading advanced novels. After undergoing psychological testing by the Ministry of Education, it was recommended that he skip two grades, advancing from Grade 3 to Grade 5.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his learning during Grades 6 and 7, although he still excelled in his studies. After completing Grade 7, Adornai expressed his desire to skip to Oโ€™Levels, bypassing Form 2.

โ€œBy the end of Form 1, he was eager to write Oโ€™Levels early. I supported his passion despite financial constraints and arranged for homeschooling with experienced tutors,โ€ Moyo explained.

While his former school appreciated his abilities, they were hesitant about skipping grades due to his age. For Moyo, homeschooling became the ideal solution due to its affordability.

โ€œNow that Iโ€™ve seen his results, I wish for him to pursue Cambridge A-Levels. However, the high cost of education remains a challenge,โ€ she said.

Adornai has received placement at Christian Brothers College (CBC), one of the best Cambridge schools in Zimbabwe, but the fees are substantial.
