The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is set to roll out a Covid-19 vaccination programme for children between the ages of 12 to 15 years, as the city strives to achieve herd immunity.
According to a notice by town clerk Christopher Dube, the campaign will be rolled out in two phases with the first one running from March 21 to April 4, 2022, and the second phase will run from May 2 to May 15, 2022.
“During the campaign, the vaccination to the 16 years and above age group will continue. Based on the available scientific data in line with the Medicines Control Authorities of Zimbabwe guidance, the specialist pediatricians have further recommended the vaccination of the 12 to 15 years of age group,” said Dube.
The vaccine will be administered at all municipal clinics, central hospitals, Mater Dei hospital, all primary schools, secondary schools and outreach points.
According to the latest Ministry of Health and Child Care report, 4 415 064 people have received their first dose while 3 441 731 people have had their second dose. Only 178 137 people have taken their booster shot.
