The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) members picketed outside the Tredgold Building in Bulawayo, Saturday, protesting against human rights violations in the country.
Their main gripe was the month long incanceration of the student body’s leader Takudzwa Ngaidzore who was finally granted ZWL5000 bail at the High Court in Harare on Friday.
Ngaidzore had been arrested in September for protesting against Impala Car Rental which stands accused of hiring out a vehicle which was used in the abduction and subsequent torture of Midlands State University (MSU) student Tawanda Muchehiwa on July 30 in Bulawayo.
The protest led by the association’s national secretary of legal affairs Jingani Shoko, was meant to point out the injustices being pepertrated against the two activists.
Shoko expressed disappointment in the proceedings of court processes citing that they delay in serving justice.
He said the bail conditions given Ngadziore are unfair as they incapacitate him to execute his duties as president of ZINASU as he has been barred from partaking in protests until his matter is finalised.
“We are doing our demonstration at the court because of the inefficiency of the courts. We have seen that our president (Ngaidzore) spent more than a month (in remand prison) and was released yesterday (Friday). When he was released harsh conditions were imposed on him,” said Shoko.
Shoko reiterated that the organisation will continue pressing on the State until these issues of upholding students rights are addressed.

“The state should focus on arresting the economy and not going after students,” he charged.
