Zimbabwe has recorded the highest ever Covid-19 new infections and fatalities in a single day, after 1365 cases and 34 deaths were confirmed on Tuesday.
Previously, the highest single-day record stood at 774 new cases recorded on January 3, 2021.
All the new infections are local transmissions.
Harare recorded the bulk of the new infections with 777 cases and 10 deaths while Bulawayo recorded 110 new infections and 7 deaths, according to the latest Ministry of Health and Child Care report.
The other deaths were reported in Manicaland (8), Mashonaland Central (2), Mashonaland East and Midlands each had a single fatalities.
Mashonaland West recorded 3 deaths while Masvingo reported 2 fatalities.
This comes after the government imposed a strict 30 day national lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
“97 new recoveries reported: National Recovery rate stands at 69% and active cases go up to 4963 today.”
As of January 5, 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 17 194 cases, 11 813 recoveries and 418 deaths.
