Zanu PF youth chair hospitalised after car accident
Zanu-PF youth chair for Matabeleland North Lundy Sinzeka is battling for life in hospital following an accident that claimed one life and injured four others on Christmas day.
Sinzeka was driving a Zanu-PF vehicle when he lost control of the vehicle after failing to negotiate a curve near Manjolo business centre along the Binga-Cross Dete road.
Sinzeka (33) had five passengers on board including his wife and relatives.
Police said the vehicle veered off the road before overturning and rolling several times, killing one on the spot.
โOn 25 December at 10 am and at 115km along Cross Dete-Binga road, the sole party was driving a Zanu-PF Ford Ranger twin cab travelling from Binga to Mangobole with five passengers, his wife and relatives on board.
โUpon approaching the 115km peg, the driver failed to negotiate a curve, lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road to the left and right, overturned and rolled several times before landing on the right side,โ said the police.
One passenger died on the spot while four others including Sinzeka sustained serious injuries.
Sinzeka was rushed to Binga District Hospital where he was admitted.
Three of his relatives are in the same hospital while two others were transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo because of the seriousness of the injuries.
Police suspect Sinzeka was speeding when the accident occurred and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
This comes as police said 92 people had died in 1 285 road accidents between December 15th and boxing day.
This was 20 deaths more than in the same period last year where 1 626 accidents were recorded.
Police said on Christmas day,ย 25 December 2022, a total of 119 traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, with 10 being fatal killing 13 people and injuring 89, compared to 187 road traffic accidents recorded during the same period in 2021 with 10 fatal killing 13 people and injuring 35 others.
